National Workshop
1) Gender and Violence (1st February 2011):
The Centre organised one day National Workshop on ‘Gender and Violence’ with special reference to Marathwada region on 1st February 2011. The theme covered on concept of gender and violence and its implication in changing scenario of family, economy, culture, politics, class and religion in the form of disparity, deprivation, exploitation, violation of individual rights, etc. Mina Shesu, from NGO called SANGRAM and Elvice Thomas from Nirmala Niketan addressed this issue
2) Feminist Research Method (29th- 30th August 2013):
The Centre organised two-days National Workshop on ‘Feminist Research Methods’ on 29th -30th August 2013 to expose the research students and college and university teachers to the emerging area of feminist pedagogy and feminist epistemology and how to use research techniques with feminist sensibilities. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. A. Suneetha from Anveshi Research Centre for Women, Hyderabad. A. Suneetha has made substantial contribution to the field of gender, law and domestic violence. In her inaugural speech she elaborated upon how feminist research in India is linked with various strands within feminist movements viz. the reformist, the nationalist the leftist and in current times dalit, queer and disability feminism added to the list. The Vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Dilip Ukey, who presided over the inaugural function, focused his lecture on gender and law. The chief guest for the valedictory session was Professor Suneetha Rani from the University of Hyderabad who concluded the workshop by lecturing on dalit women and their material conditions and how their experiences are depicted in dalit women’s poetry. The poetry could be a source of the vantage point to explore social realities. The other speakers were Dr. Sanjay Kamble (Faculty, Krantijoyti Savitri Bai Phule Stree Abhyas Kendra, University of Pune, Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad; Dr Dilip Chauhan from Department of English, SRTM University, Nanded, Supriya Gaikwad, a local dalit feminist activist and editor of the Marathi Journal Yelgaar and Mr. Kedar Deshmukh from The Unique Academy, Pune. The participants numbered around one hundred and twenty included postgraduate students of social sciences and humanities and faculty members from local colleges and university.
3) ‘Protection against Sexual Harassment, 2013 and Gender Equality’ (19 March 2014):
The Centre organised one-day workshop on ‘Protection against Sexual Harassment, 2013 and Gender Equality’ for female staff of the University to create awareness. Lata Bishe from Pune talked about Vishakha Judgement, 2013 and Gender Equality. Madhav Dompalle and Jyoti Sapkal also explained the Act in details. Another speaker clarified the Amendments in Sexual Harassment Laws of 2013. This workshop was organised in the collaboration with YASHADA, Pune.
4) Transgender Identity and Transgender Lives in Contemporary India ( 4th March 2015):
Women’s Studies Centre organized One-day National Workshop on Transgender Identity and Transgender Lives in Contemporary India on 4 th March 2015. The workshop created awareness about social exclusion based on gender and sexual identity. LGBT movement in India and the landmark Supreme Court Judgment of 2014, known as NALSA judgment, was also discussed in the workshop. Around one hundred participants participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, Associate Professor, University of Hyderabad. Mr. Suresh Khole, SBP Pune University, and Mr. Navdeep, from ANVESHI Research Centre for women, Hyderabad deliberated upon the enormous violence and marginalization the trans-communities experience because of class, gender and sexual identities of trans-persons.
5) Growing Violence against Women and Marginalised Genders (17 October 2016):
The centre organized One-day National Workshop on Growing Violence against Women and Marginalised Genders on 17 October 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Deepa Srinivas from Director, Centre for Women’s Studies HCU, Hyderabad. Prof.PanditVidyasagar Vice–Chancellor, S.R.T.M.University, Nanded, presided over the inaugural function. The chief guest of the workshop Dr. Deepa Srinivas touched upon “Representing Gender and Violence: An engagement through Cinema.” Ms. Firdaus Soni, HCU, Hyderabad elaborated upon ‘Sairat’ Reflecting upon Caste and Gender Violence. After this lecture a documentary film “Laxman Rekha” was screened for Participants. The film was based on women’s issue. In second session Dr. Sanjay Kamble highlighted the continuation of gender violence by focusing on Honour Killings. Pushpesh kumar in his speech outlined the violence against transgender in India and focused upon how the queer movement in the city of Hyderabad over past two years has democratized by privileging the voice of transgender communities. Miss Lata in her talk touched upon the specific violence faced by Dalit and Bhaujan women. The participants numbered around one hundred and twenty including postgraduate students of social sciences and humanities and faculty members from local colleges and the university.
6) ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, One Prohibition and Redressal) Act-2013-Internal Complain Committee ’(31st January 2017):
Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Mumbai had organized one-day Workshop on Internal Complaints Committee in the collaboration of Women’s Studies Centre, S.R.T.M. University on 31st January 2017. Colleges who are affiliated with the S.R.T.M. University had sent their Principal and two members of the Internal Complain Committee to participate in the workshop. Around 370 participants were present in the workshop. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of this University, Pandit Vidyasagar inaugurated the workshop. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Manjusha Molwane, Member Secretary of Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Mumbai. Director, B.C.U.D. of the University, Dr. Dipak Panaskar and President of District Complain Committee Dr. Kaur madam,Senior concellor of MSCW Mrs.Shakina Sharif and Sunita Dicholkar ,District Protection Officer Ganesh Jondhale were present at the workshop. The programme started with the introductory speech of Dr.Manjusha Molwane .She had delivered the lecture on Sexual Harassment Act-2013 and create awareness about PUSH to the participants . The Director of Complykaro Dr.Vishal Kedia came as Resource Person for the workshop. 7) Gender and Marathi Language( 15th January 2018):
The Women’s Studies Centre, School of Social Sciences and School of Language Literature and Cultural Studies jointly organized One-day Workshop on Gender and Marathi Language on 15 January 2016. The main speakers of the workshop, Dr. Nina Gogate, School of Language Literature and Cultural Studies, SRTMU, Nanded, Dr.Nirmala Jadhav, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University,Aurangabad, Dr. Rajendra Gonarkar from School of Media Studies, this university, and Prakash Ghodke, Renowned Poet had touched upon the subject. Around 80 participants were present in the workshop.
8) Violence against Women and other Genders: In Private and Public (22 March 2018):
Women’s Studies Centre & School of Social Sciences jointly organized One-Day National Workshop on Violence against Women and other Genders: In Private and Public on 22/03/2018. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Dr. Pushpesh Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Pandit Vidyasagar Vice–Chancellor, S.R.T.M.University, Nanded, presided over the inaugural function. The chief guest of the workshop Dr. Pushpesh Kumar touched upon Defining Violence, in Private and Public Defining and Victims of Gender based Violence. Urvija Priyadarshini University of Hyderabad highlighted the Stigma, Exclusion and Violence and A case study of Vulnerability to Gender based Violence -The Widows of North India. Firdaus Soni Ex-Member, GSCASH, University of Hyderabad discussed about Understanding Gender Harassment and Promoting Gender Sensitization. Ann Mathew University of Hyderabad touched upon Interpreting Violence beyond the Physical and The Violence of Male Gaze: A literary case study. The participants numbered around one hundred and twenty including postgraduate students of social sciences and humanities and faculty members from local colleges and the university.
