School of Languages and Literature
About The School

The School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies was established in 2000 with the aim
of promoting the study of language, literature and culture. It also aims to provide the students
of this region with opportunities to recognise and face the challenges of globalization in their
personal and public lives. At the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, we
strive to enhance the students’ literary sensibilities and insights through interdisciplinary
modes and methods inherent in the very concept of this school. During the past eleven years,
the School has remained a centre of various literary activities. Learned scholars and
professors have delivered lectures in the School constantly. From the beginning, the School
has developed relations with other leading institutions in the field. There has been a
continuous exchange through the programs like guest lectures, extension lectures, etc.
Students of the School always have access to experts in various fields and evolving trends in
literary theory and criticism. To generate interest in Language and Literature at higher levels
of learning, the School has been conducting post-graduate teaching effectively- organizing
seminars, conferences, workshops, and conducting programs such as "Face to Face with a
Writer".
The School offers a Master’s program in English and Marathi, along with M.Phil and PhD
programs for both these languages. Our M.A. program is a semester based two year program
consisting of M.A. Part One and M.A. Part Two. In the academic year 2006-07, the School
introduced the credit grade based performance and assessment (C.G.P.A) system.
In 2010, the Centre for Foreign Languages was created as part of the School of Language,
Literature and Culture Studies in order to promote the study of foreign languages in this
region. The Centre for Foreign Languages has already started Certificate, Diploma and
Advanced Diploma Courses in Foreign Languages. It currently offers courses in French and
Spanish. The Centre plans to introduce other foreign languages in the near future. The Centre
offers regular batches as well as weekend batches for the benefit of the students.
