About The School

School of Chemical Sciences is one of the early schools established in Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University. It started functioning in 1985 under sub center of Dr.B.A.M. University and has been offering M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences. In tune with the National Science objectives and requirements of the region, the School has been offering M.Sc. in interdisciplinary subjects such as Medicinal Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry since 2000. A separate building constructed for chemical sciences in an area of 28,500 sq. ft. is well equipped in terms of class rooms, laboratories, store room, cabins for faculty, and seminar hall.

The curriculum in the department is constantly evolving to reflect the cutting edge issues in the field of chemistry and innovative teaching methods. The school provides a choice based credit system for its M.Sc. course to suit the individual needs of the students. The School started functioning with just two faculty members. It has now 11 faculty members and the school already has national character where faculty are drawn from different parts of state/country to promote excellence in higher education. Most of the faculty members have Ph.D. degree and rich post doctoral experience in advanced laboratories in India and abroad.

The research pursuits in the school are wide ranging, inter disciplinary and of a high order. The school has contributed to research in a significant way in the last five years. In the past five years faculty have published over 200 publications in reputed journals published by American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Royal Society of Chemistry and Indian Academy of Sciences.

19 students have obtained their doctoral degree and 40 students, registered for Ph.D. are at various levels of completion, six faculties have recognition as Guides and also supervise M.Phil students. The school places equal emphasis on applied and basic research. Five on going projects funded by UGC and DST, are on basic research. Out of eleven, seven faculty members are recognized for Ph.D. and actively pursue research in emerging areas.
