The Ministry of Human Resources Development wrote a letter to vice-chancellor of all Universities in 1994 urging them to have N. S. S. open unit.

50 Senior citizens from all walks of life were given membership of this unit in Nanded. All of them are experts in the fields of (1) Medicine (2) Law (3) Engineering (4) Arts (5) Education (6) Administration (7) Defense (8) Journalism (9) Science and Technology (10) Music, etc.

They are rendering their services to the society. The N. S. S. unit wants to channels the expertise so that the community will be benefited.

The N. S. S. Open Unit is doing well in Nanded. Presently the open unit is devoted to propagation of family planning ideals. It has also published a book on major religions in India named ‘Eka Naveche Pravasi’ with an idea of promoting communal harmony.
