Aims of N. S. S. Programmes
The motto of N. S. S. is ‘Not me but You’ which expresses the essence of
democratic living, respect of for the other people and selfless service. Our University has
discarded the aviary tower attitude. The aim of our N. S. S. is to promote National
integration and the sense of social responsibility, inculcate of discipline, dignity of labour
and help the student to develop his total personality. Our N. S. S. programmes are project
and action oriented. The activities which are suitable for the intellectual and physical
requirements of the students are undertaken.
Classification of N. S. S. Programmes
N. S. S. activities have been divided in two major groups. These are regular
N. S. S. activities and special camping programme.
- N. S. S. Regular activities: Under this activities student undertake various
programmes in the adopted villages college / school campuses and urban slums
during week ends or after college hours. Duration of these services is 120 hrs. in
each academic year.
- Special Camping Programme: under this, Camps of 10 days duration are
organized in adopted villages or urban slums during vacations with some specific
projects by involving Local Communities. 50 Percent N. S. S. volunteers are
essential to participate in these camps from each college having N.S.S. units.
In order to develop planned activities in the course of academic year, the dept. of
N. S. S. prepare the month wise action plan for effective implementation These activities
are not regid and are changable according to the local needs of the people.
The N. S. S. student of this University are involved in a variety of useful
programmes like social consciousness, removal of blind beliefs, small family campaigns,
enhancement of scientific attitude, gender equality, woman rights, entrepreneurship,
ecological balance, value orientation, health services, AIDS prevention, pollution
problem, family welfare, child labour, helping the physically handicapped and the
mentally retarded, work during emergencies, improvement of the status of women,
assistance to below poverty line people, teaching of improved agricultural practices, soil
testing, soil conservation, soil health, afforestation, adult education, organization of youth
clubs, disaster management, solar energy conservation eradication of social evils, like
castism, regionalism, corruption, untouchability, drugging etc.
Non-formal education of rural youth, village / slum adoption, rural reconstruction,
watershed management and waste land development, environmental enrichment and
conservation, blood donation, construction of goober gas plants, vermi compost project
preservation of cultural heritage among the community, nutrition programme, communal
harmony, mass immunisation, cultural activities, seminars, group discussion,
symposiums, lecture series, community singing, antidrug addiction drives, use of
fertilisers, hotriculture development, beautification of college campus. Pre school
education, preliminary health care, population education, National integration etc.
In such programmes the N. S. S. students are coming in contact with the people
and their problems. Hence this experience is definitely developing the personality of the
students & also satisfying their urge to serve the weak and the needy people.
